Like many people, when we decided to sell our home, we wanted to do some improvements before the sale. The idea of doing some upgrades was to increase the perceived value of our home so that we could make a little extra money on it. We didn’t want to spend a lot of money on the upgrades, so we had to decide exactly which improvements we would make.
The first thing that we decided to do was paint the walls inside of the home. It had been a few years since we painted and honestly the walls needed it. Instead of trying to come up with some funky color combinations, we decided to keep our color choices neutral and painted the walls white. The reasoning here was that there was a good chance that the new owner would want to paint the walls colors that they would enjoy, so paining them anything but white would be a waste of time.
The flooring in the home also needed an upgrade, so we decided to use laminate flooring throughout the home. My son had experience with installing laminate flooring, so we knew that he could install it properly. We also had a friend that works in a shop that sells laminate flooring and he was able to get us a good deal on it.
When it came to the backyard of the home, there was not a lot that needed to be done. It was already landscaped and we had beautiful flower beds. But we decided that the missing piece of the backyard was a pergola. So we picked up one of those pergola kits that you find in the store and set it up in the yard. It certainly adds a touch of class and I don’t know why we didn’t put one back there sooner.
Now that the upgrades are complete all we have to do is list the home. Hopefully it will sell quickly and we will get the price that we ask for it. Wish us luck!
