Advancing Mobile Commerce
Thursday, December 22, 2011 18:13Mobile commerce itself has come on leaps and bounds over the past few years and it has enjoyed an almost 50% rise every year. However, with that being said, it is still very much not in mainstream culture and it is generally only a few people that use it on a regular basis.
What is mobile commerce though? Well, it is basically the act of doing transactions on your mobile phone; for example, things like buying goods online, banking etc… It is funny how over the space of a decade we have firmly moved away from our reliance on physical stores and shops and instead tend to look online to buy our goods and this includes everything from our Christmas presents, groceries, electronics and clothes. In fact, it actually extends further than this and is an umbrella term to include any sort of transaction that can be done on a mobile device and this means things like ringtones etc… as well.
It is true that the smaller items such as ringtones have been popular on the mobile commerce front for years however the market itself is perhaps lagging behind somewhat in that it only tends to be the smaller items that are purchased; users have a habit of not purchasing more expensive or important items on a mobile device. Why is this? Well security is one factor as many do not trust their mobile to give you the same amount of security as a laptop however the apps that this type of commerce is based upon are highly secure. The market itself in this sector is growing each and every year as more and more firms see the potential of expanding to the mobile world however it will be a while before it becomes as mainstream as buying through a computer.
